Military Vehicles: Armor steel is extensively used in tanks, armored personnel carriers, and other military vehicles to provide protection against ballistic threats.
Naval Ships: Certain grades of armor steel are used in the construction of naval vessels, especially in areas that require additional protection.
Body Armor: High-hardness armor steel plates are used in body armor like bulletproof vests and helmets.
Security Vehicles: Vehicles used by VIPs, banks, and cash-in-transit companies are often reinforced with armor steel to protect against attacks.
Fortifications: Military installations, embassies, and other secure facilities may use armor steel in walls, gates, and guard posts.
Shooting Ranges: Armor steel plates are used as backstops and protective barriers in shooting ranges.
Armor steel plates come in a wide range of thicknesses, typically from a few millimeters up to several inches, depending on the intended application and the level of protection required. Standard dimensions may vary, but common sizes for sheets and plates include:
Width:Widths ranging from 24 inches (about 610 mm) to 96 inches (about 2440 mm)
Length:Lengths ranging from 96 inches (about 2440 mm) to 288 inches (about 7315 mm)
Custom sizes can also be produced based on specific requirements.
Quenching and Tempering: This heat treatment process increases the hardness and toughness of steel. The material is heated to a high temperature and then rapidly cooled (quenched), followed by a reheating (tempering) to a lower temperature to achieve the desired mechanical properties.
Rolling: Armor steel plates are hot or cold rolled to the required thicknesses with tight dimensional tolerances.
Surface Treatment: Surface treatments such as shot blasting and priming are applied to prevent corrosion and improve adhesion of protective coatings.
Cutting and Forming: High-precision cutting technologies like laser, plasma, or waterjet cutting are used to cut armor plates to size. Forming processes such as bending may be used to shape the plates for specific applications.
Welding: Specialized welding techniques are necessary to maintain the integrity of the armor plate's protective qualities at the joints and seams.
