Aerospace and Diving: High-strength cylinders for air or oxygen, used in aerospace applications and SCUBA diving.
The dimensions of steel plates for gas cylinders vary depending on the intended use of the cylinder. Common dimensions include:
Thickness: Typically ranges from 3mm to 10mm, depending on the size and pressure requirements of the cylinder.
Width and Length: Steel plates can be cut to various widths and lengths, often standard sizes are 1.5m x 6m or according to customer requirements.
Hot Rolling: Steel plates are usually hot-rolled to achieve the desired thickness and mechanical properties.
Cold Rolling: In some cases, steel plates might be cold-rolled to improve surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
Cutting: Plates are cut to the required size using plasma cutting, laser cutting, or mechanical shearing.
Forming: The plates are then formed into cylinders using rolling machines.
Welding: Longitudinal edges of the rolled plates are welded together using submerged arc welding (SAW), tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, or metal inert gas (MIG) welding to form a cylinder.
Heat Treatment: After welding, cylinders are often heat-treated to relieve stresses and improve toughness.
Surface Treatment: Cylinders may be shot blasted to clean the surface and then coated or painted to prevent corrosion.
Testing: The finished cylinders undergo rigorous testing to ensure they can withstand the pressures for which they are rated. This includes hydrostatic testing, where the cylinder is filled with water and pressurized to a specified level to check for leaks and strength.
